Millary wire is a goldwork thread 

Made of a cotton core wrapped with a strip of metal plate, like Japanese thread.  This thread sits within a coil of fine wire, giving a very decorative effect.  It is particularly good for edging designs.

Like all our metal threads, millary wire is made here in the UK.

Use millary wire by couching over it with a matching sewing thread coated with beeswax.
