RSN Essential Stitch Guides: Whitework, Lizzy Lansberry, Search Press, 2012

I was delighted to be asked to write the Essential Stitch Guide to Whitework for the Royal School of Needlework, soon after graduating from their Apprenticeship.

Whitework is a truly beautiful technique, or rather a collection of techniques.  It has a delicacy unrivalled by other types of embroidery, and yet is surprisingly versatile.

In the book I cover the main types of whitework with step-by-step photo guides: surface embroidery, pulled thread work, drawn thread work, counted satin stitch, cutwork, eyelets and net embroidery (also known as net darning or needlerun lace).  I look a little at the history of whitework including showcasing some beautiful antique textiles, and explain how to clean new or antique pieces.

I no longer sell copies of this book myself, but you can get it in all the usual places, including direct from Search Press.
