Some experience helpful

The word ‘goldwork’ is used to describe embroidery with metal threads and wires, even if they are not gold!  This technique has a long history all over the world; originally reserved for items of state and ceremony, now it can be enjoyed by everyone.

Some threads are stitched over to secure them to the fabric, others are cut and stitched through - like beads.

This design fits in an 8 inch ring frame and is ideal if you have tried goldwork before and are looking for a challenging next step.

The project explores three types of couching plus chipping, cutwork and padding techniques.

You get full instructions for each stitch, with tips on how to achieve the best results, delivered in pdf format by email.

You will also need: fabric of your choice and calico backing, yellow felt, tapestry cotton, pearl purl (super and very fine, 1/2m each), No.4 smooth passing thread 3m, 8x2 check thread 2m, No.1 1/2 twist 2m, No.6 wire check 1/2m, No.6 bright check 1/2m, No.6 smooth purl 1/2m, No.6 rough purl 1/2m, gold-coloured sewing thread, embroidery needles (size 10), chenille needles (size 20, 22)
