Check thread is a goldwork thread made of a cotton core wrapped with a narrow strip of metal plate. It is similar to smooth passing thread, but it has a zig-zag wiggle, which is perfect for adding texture and variety to your goldwork designs.

Use check thread by couching over it (usually in pairs for a smooth line, but singly if you prefer). It can be used in combination with other couching threads to great effect. Use either a matching or contrasting sewing thread with a coating of beeswax.
8x2 is the smallest, 16x3 is medium-size and 36x6 is the largest.
