The word ‘goldwork’ is used to describe embroidery with metal threads and wires, even if they are not gold! This technique has a long history all over the world; originally reserved for items of state and ceremony, now it can be enjoyed by everyone.
Some threads are stitched over to secure them to the fabric, others are cut and stitched through - like beads.
This design fits in a 6 inch ring frame and is an entry-level project. This is for you if you love butterflies and are trying goldwork for the first time or want a bit more practice with the basic techniques.
The kit explores three types of couching plus chipping, leather and padding techniques.
In the box you get full instructions for each stitch, with tips on how to achieve the best results.
Kit contains: linen fabric, felt, pearl purl, smooth passing thread, rococco, bright check, metallic kid leather, spangles, sewing thread, needles, design and full instructions
The kit comes in a presentation box for handy storage. Fabric is wrapped with acid-free tissue to protect your embroidery project.
The materials pack option contains the metal threads and padding you need to stitch the project. You will need to refer to the instructions in Goldwork Embroidery Techniques and Projects, and supply your own fabric and needles (you can purchase linen here if you wish).
