This will be a bring-your-own project course, in which you can choose your own image and I will help you work through it from planning to stitching. My aim with this course is to help you through a first project, so that you will feel more confident to tackle others on your own. With that in mind, I'd love it if you stitch your own design; but if you prefer to follow a kit or take inspiration from an existing project, that's fine too.
Depending on how confident you feel at the start of the project, and how much time you can dedicate to it outside of class time, you might spend the first few sessions on planning and sampling or go pretty quickly into stitching.
I have a handful of my own design ideas to plan and start, so that I can demonstrate parts of my process that are relevant to your needs. I will ask you to send me your ideas in advance if you are able to, so that I can be prepared to share my thoughts in class. I anticipate spending most of the class time going over your designs and then stitching, troubleshooting as we go. Depending on how the projects progress and what is relevant, I might dedicate some sessions to particular features such as animal eyes or turnover petals.
The project you choose could be anything really, but a starting point could be a flower, fruit, animal or bird in natural shading; or you might like to work an ecclesiastical-style figure in 'tapestry shading'.
The course is going to run over 10 monthly sessions, beginning in October.

The first two sessions will run for three hours from 9am, because we will all be in the early planning stages and that will take more time in class. The remaining sessions will run for two hours from 10am.
We will of course have a WhatsApp discussion group, so we can easily share photos and support between sessions. I will also be able to give more detailed advice by email individually as and when needed.
The price for the whole course is £384. There is no kit - because we are all stitching different things, we will need to look at choosing our thread colours during class. There are various suppliers of stranded cottons for silk shading, so you should have little trouble acquiring what you need (though it might take a bit of back and forth to the shops to get the colours just right!)
